“I’m thinking about how happy I am to have been able to have both children,” Megan said, speaking of Archie, who is three. Lily, who turned one a few weeks ago in England. “It’s interesting that you’re talking here to two women: One chose to give birth happily, and another chose not to give birth happily. We both thrive because we were able to make our own choices. Incredible.”
Meghan has also opened up about her miscarriage, and the need to remove stigma from the discussion around women’s health and abortion.
“I know what it feels like to have a connection to what’s growing inside your body. What happens to our bodies is a very personal thing, which can also lead to silence and stigmatization, even though many of us deal with personal health crises. I know what it feels like to have a miscarriage, which You talk about it publicly. The more we normalize the conversation about the things that affect our lives and our bodies, the more people will understand how necessary protections are,” she said.
In an influential article published in The New York Times In November 2020, the Duchess revealed that I had a miscarriage in July of the same year. Meghan has shared intimate details of her time in the hospital, hoping it will lessen the “taboo” of talking about abortion.
“Losing a child means enduring an almost unbearable grief, which many suffer but so little talk about. In the pain of our loss, my husband and I discovered that in a room of 100 women, 10 to 20 of them would suffer a miscarriage. But despite this startling commonality Pain, the conversation is still taboo, filled with (unexplained) shame, and perpetuates a cycle of solitary mourning,” she wrote. “Some have bravely shared their stories; they have opened the door, realizing that when someone speaks the truth, it gives license to us all to do the same.”
